ASSOCIATION CORNER

In 2025, HSMAI is poised for a year of innovation, growth, and global collaboration. We continue to build on our rich legacy while driving forward initiatives that support hospitality commercial professionals worldwide.

Key Events and Milestones

The year kicked off with the Adrians Award Celebration on February 18th at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. This prestigious event honored excellence in hotel and travel marketing, recognizing groundbreaking campaigns and career achievements. Industry leaders and rising stars alike came together to celebrate innovation and inspire the future of hospitality marketing.

Building on the momentum from last year’s sold-out Commercial Strategy Conference, HSMAI is preparing for an even larger event in Indianapolis on June 17-18. This conference will bring together top minds across commercial disciplines, providing attendees with actionable insights to drive success. Registration is open and early registration encouraged, as demand is expected to exceed capacity once again.

On the international stage, HSMAI is strengthening its presence in many regions with Commercial Strategy events in the Middle East, LATAM and the Revenue Optimization Conference Asia Pac and Europe regions, enforcing the association’s commitment to fostering global collaboration and innovation. Across HSMAI’s regions, professionals will find opportunities to connect, learn, and advance their careers through dynamic events tailored to their markets.

A Commitment to Continuous Learning

Education remains a cornerstone of HSMAI’s mission. With AI, the advance of commercial, and technology advancements reshaping the industry, staying ahead of emerging trends is more crucial than ever. Our suite of certifications continues to expand with the launching of the Certification in Hospitality Sales Leadership in 2024.

In late February, HSMAI Foundation released a specially commissioned white paper on AI and talent, exploring how artificial intelligence is transforming workforce strategies. Additionally, the annual State of Talent report, set for publication in Q2, will provide deep insights into the evolving hospitality labor market.

Key Trends Shaping the Hospitality Industry in 2025

Drawing from insights across its boards, HSMAI has identified several major forces driving change in hospitality:

  • Personalized Guest Experiences: Major hotel brands are investing in commercial strategy, loyalty programs, and dynamic pricing models to enhance customer engagement and satisfaction.
  • Alternative Accommodations & Hybrid Models: The rise of independent brands and flexible accommodations is reshaping traveler expectations, with hotels looking to incorporate unique, localized experiences.
  • Technology & AI Integration: From AI-powered advertising to predictive analytics, technology is revolutionizing revenue optimization, customer engagement, and operational efficiency.
  • Leading Through Organizational Shifts: Sales and marketing teams are grappling with faster-than-ever transitions in structure, roles, and responsibilities. Leaders must juggle near-constant change with maintaining team morale and long-term growth.
  • Workforce Retention Amid Talent Gaps: Labor strikes, high turnover, and talent shortages are affecting both sales and revenue teams. Offering professional development, cross-training, and clear career paths is crucial to retain top performers.
  • Cross-Industry Influences: Lessons from industries like retail and entertainment are inspiring innovative guest engagement strategies, loyalty programs, and brand storytelling.
  • OTA Partnerships & Direct Booking Strategies: While online travel agencies provide visibility, hotels are working to strengthen direct booking
channels to maximize revenue and guest relationships.
  • Data Privacy, Regulation, and Ethical Concerns: Changing privacy laws and fee-transparency regulations will shape how hotels collect, store, and use data. Meanwhile, AI and personalization raise ethical issues that demand responsible implementation.
  • Integrating Technology and Breaking Down Silos: Fragmented systems (CRMs, marketing platforms, revenue management tools) impede holistic decision-making. Unifying data sources can streamline operations and spark better crossdepartment collaboration.

As HSMAI embraces the opportunities of 2025, the organization remains dedicated to education, innovation, and leadership. With a robust calendar of events, cutting edge research, and a strong network of professionals, HSMAI is well-positioned to support the industry.
